# Desktop 3D Printers

Desktop 3D printers are “compact” 3D printers that can be used in a home, school or office environment. Desktop 3D printers use a process known as additive manufacturing to create objects by layering raw materials on top of each other. We use the term “compact” when referring to desktop 3D printers loosely, as while these types of printers do not require a large and open space (they’re designed to fit on a desktop), they can often be the size of a mini-fridge or even larger.
